Elgin Uber Driver Sentenced In Passenger Sex Abuse Case

Ahmed Tawfeeq was also sentenced to 2 years of mandatory supervised release following his prison sentence, according to officials.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — McHenry County State's Attorney Patrick Kenneally announced Monday that Ahmed Tawfeeq, 29, formerly from Elgin, was sentenced Friday to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to a news release from the McHenry Count State's Attorney's office. Tawfeeq was also sentenced to two years of mandatory supervised release which will follow his prison sentence, according to the news release.

Tawfeeq was additionally sentenced by McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt to five years for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, three years for aggravated battery, two years for unlawful restraint, and two years for promoting prostitution. The sentences on all offenses will be served at the same time, according to the news release. Tawfeeq was found guilty of the above offenses after a bench trial on Nov. 5, the state's attorney's office added.

On the morning of June 16, 2017, Tawfeeq, an Uber drive, assaulted a victim in his car on the morning of June 16, 2017, while in Prairie Grove near the victim's home, according to the state's attorney's office. He faced additional charges of solicitation of harassment of a witness during a Jan. 6 jury trial in McHenry County, according to the news release.
