Firefighters Rescue Dog From Icy Lake

The dog became stranded on the lake during the early afternoon hours of Tuesday.

WONDER LAKE, IL — Firefighters in Wonder Lake successfully saved a dog that went through the ice on the lake Tuesday afternoon.

The dog became stranded on the lake during the early afternoon hours of Tuesday, according to a news release from the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District. Several residents called to report the situation, and the fire protection district sent out an airboat, along with its specialized airboat crew, to help get the dog to safety.

"Despite challenges faced during the rescue operation, including the dog evading capture multiple times and falling into the frigid waters. The dedicated airboat crew persisted. Various attempts were made, and the crew skillfully corralled the dog until it was successfully pulled to safety," fire officials wrote in the news release.

"The WWLFPD expresses its gratitude to the community members who promptly reported the incident and acknowledges the seamless cooperation with Animal Control throughout the rescue operation," according to the news release. "The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, including their four-legged companions."
