ALGONQUIN, IL – A 39-year-old Hampshire man was seriously injured early Thursday morning following an accident in which police said that the vehicle the man was driving struck and killed a horse on Route 47 before the truck left the roadway.
Kane County Sheriff’s deputies have not identified the driver who was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital following the accident, which took place at 12:40 a.m., police said. Deputies traveling on Route 47 near the intersection of Rohrsen Road spotted the dead horse in the road and then noticed a Dodge Ram that was nearby off the road, police said Thursday.
Deputies spoke with the owner of the horse who had been out looking for the horse. The owner told police that she believed the horse suffered some sort of a medical emergency and broke out of the stable prior to the crash. Police did not indicate how far away from the accident scene the stable was.
