How Much Snow Will Fall In Algonquin, Lake in the Hills.

Rain in north central and northeast Illinois is expected to change to snow Tuesday evening.

ALGONQUIN AND LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The Algonquin and Lake in the Hills area could see a couple more inches of snowfall during an upcoming winter storm, but far less than towns in the southern suburbs and other portions of the Chicago area, according to Tuesday morning weather reports.

Rain in north central and northeast Illinois is expected to change to snow Tuesday evening. The snowfall is expected to continue overnight with the highest snow rates of up to an inch per hour expected after midnight on Wednesday.

According to the forecast for Algonquin, up to two inches could fall between Tuesday night and Wednesday evening.

A winter storm warning and winter weather advisory has been issued for other counties in the Chicago area, with southern towns, such as the Joliet area, expected to get up to a foot of snow.

Those needing to travel across the Chicago area during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes should check for updates on travel conditions since conditions will vary greatly between the northern portion of the Chicago area and the southern portion.

A second round of snow is possible through mid-afternoon on Thursday, but the majority of snow will occur with the first round of snow Wednesday, according to the weather service.
