Huntley Man Arrested on Drug-Induced Homicide Warrant for Alleged Role in LITH Death

Police say a Huntley man provided a fatal narcotics mix to a Lake in the Hills 26-year-old who was found dead in his home last year.

Police arrested a Huntley man Tuesday for what they say was his role in the 2016 death of a Lake in the Hills 26-year-old.

Terrance M. Kampas, of the 10400 block of North Church Street in Huntley, is facing one count each of drug-induced homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance — a Class X and a Class 2 felony, respectively. Charges stem from April 10, 2016, when Lake in the Hills police officers were dispatched to a residence on Turnberry Court for a report of an unresponsive man who was later pronounced dead.

Detectives from the LITH Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff's Police Narcotics Task Force uncovered evidence, "indicating the man, 26, may have ingested heroin and furanyl fentanyl prior to his death," according to a sheriff's office news alert.

Furanyl fentanyl is a relatively new synthetic opioid that's often considered more potent than heroin. Authorities also say it's harder to detect. Their months-long investigation into the fatal narcotics cocktail led them to Kampas, 27, who they say supplied the mix.

"Over the course of nine months, detectives worked closely with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and the McHenry County Coroner to collect enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for Kampas for drug induced homicide."

He was arrested without incident Tuesday at his home. His bail was set at $200,000. He would need to post 10 percent of that value, or $20,000, in order to be released.
