One Person Dies in Rollover Limo Crash on I-90 Near Elgin-Dundee [UPDATED]

Six people were seriously hurt Friday morning. A passing firefighter/paramedic stopped to help immediately after the crash.

A rollover crash involving a limousine on Interstate 90 claimed one life and seriously injured six people Friday morning. Some were critically wounded. The accident blocked traffic on eastbound lanes and tied up traffic in the westbound lanes near the Elgin-Dundee area at the Illinois 25 exit throughout the morning.

"It was alarming, it looked violent," off-duty Streamwood firefighter/paramedic Chris Tierney told the Chicago Tribune. He was several cars behind the limo, and ran to the scene to help. The driver told him people were trapped. "It was definitely a violent crash."

Tierney told the Tribune he had to smash the windows with a hammer to get the passengers out of the car.

A Flight for Life helicopter was dispatched to the scene Friday at 8 a.m.

Two people were removed from the limo by firefighters. One person riding in the back seat died. Four of the people were men, including the driver, and three were women. Officials said they were all in their 40s and 50s. Three people were listed in critical condition and three in serious condition at local hospitals.
