Man, 18, Seriously Injured In Kane County Crash
The collision happened on Powers Road in Gilberts over the weekend.
KANE COUNTY, IL — An 18-year-old man sustained serious injuries after the car he was driving collided with a tree Saturday night in Gilberts.
The Kane County Sheriff's Office responded to the collision, which happened in the area of Powers Road at Interstate 90 in Gilberts at about 10 p.m. Saturday. Police say a 2012 black Hyundai Sonata traveling south on Powers Road at a high rate of speed lost control at a curve before driving off the roadway and hitting a tree.
The driver of the Sonata, Matthew Miedema, 18, of Gilberts had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin and then transported by helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of serious injuries, including "significant chest and liver injuries," authorities said.

A passenger in his car, Andrew Stahl, 24, of Gilberts, refused medical attention, according to police.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision, and no citations or charges have been filed in connection with crash, authorities said.
