Missing Arlington Heights Senior May be Ravine Crash Victim

Wreck was reported to police late Thursday afternoon by a landscaper, but the crash's timing is uncertain. Missing man last last was seen Aug. 22.

West Chicago police say an Arlington Heights senior who went missing Aug. 22, 2013, may be the person killed in a single-car crash into a ravine at Route 59 and Hawthorne Lane. The crash was discovered Thursday. 

A car found in a deep ravine Thursday off Route 59 and Hawthorne Lane in West Chicago is registered to an Arlington Heights man who went missing Aug. 22.

Authorities said Friday the car is registered to Eugene Jonsson of Arlington Heights


A landscaper flagged down police about 4:49 p.m. Thursday, saying he had found a crashed car in a deep ravine along Route 59, just north of Hawthorne Lane. Authorities said the vehicle was about 50 feet off the roadway. A partially decomposed body was found in the dark gray Buick, a release stated.

Police determined the car struck several bushes and underbrush before stopping against a tree.

West Chicago police said they are being assisted in the death investigation by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Forensic Investigation Unit and the Coroner’s Office, which was scheduled to perform an autopsy on the victim Friday morning..


Police closed northbound lanes of Route 59 for about 90 minutes at the start of the investigation.
