Mom Of McHenry Baby Who Overdosed On Heroin Gets Probation

A news report said the woman also has to undergo substance abuse treatment, therapy, wear an electronic home monitoring bracelet, and more.

MCHENRY, IL — A McHenry woman was sentenced Friday to two years of probation stemming from her infant daughter's heroin overdose in April 2018, according to Northwest Herald. The news report said 32-year-old Ashley M. Hendle's 3-month-old infant was hospitalized just over a year ago after ingesting heroin from a teething ring. Northwest Herald said Hendle is prohibited from having contact with any children, including her own three who are being cared for by family, while she completes the sentence. The news report added that Hendle also has to undergo substance abuse treatment, therapy, wear an electronic home monitoring bracelet, submit to alcohol and drug screenings, and other restrictions ordered by McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt.

According to Northwest Herald, court records claim Hendle was wanted by police at the time of the overdose for reports she supervised at least two children while under the influence of drugs.

The mother previously entered a blind plea to possession of a controlled substance and child endangerment in connection to her child's heroin overdose, which the infant thankfully survived. According to Northwest Herald, Hendle took her baby to a friend's house on April 30, 2018 and asked the friend to drive them to the hospital, Assistant State’s Attorney Brette Dunbar said. The news report added that on the way to the hospital, Hendle's friend had to call 911 because the infant passed out.
