Neighbors Tried To Save 'Babies' Killed In Carpentersville Fire

Three young boys were killed in the fire Sunday morning in Carpentersville.

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — Three young children are dead after a fast-moving fire that left a family of six trapped inside their home in Carpentersville Sunday morning.

Firefighters worked quickly after arriving at the scene of the blaze in the 1700 block of Kingston Circle in Carpentersville. When fire crews first arrived at the scene at about 9:30 am., the home was fully engulfed in flames, three children were trapped in the basement of the house and three other family members were also trapped inside, according to an ABC 7 Chicago report.

Carpentersville Fire Chief William Anaszewicz told ABC 7, firefighters were able to get two of the older victims out and then went to search the basement where they rescued one of the children from the fire.

The two other children, who were boys and age 2 and 1 years old, died, according to a GoFundMe set up to support the mother of the children. A second boy, a 2-year-old twin, "is clinging to his life," wrote Daphney Lewis, who organized the GoFundMe.

The boy is receiving treatment at Loyola Medical Center, according to media reports.

Fire officials believe the blaze started in the lower level of the home. A multi-generational family lived in the home, which included grandparents and their three grandchildren, and the children lived in the basement, neighbors told the Daily Herald.

Neighbor Yesenia Garcia said after seeing the home go up in flames, she tried to go into the home "to save those babies" but was stopped by authorities, according to the Daily Herald.

An adult was also taken to the hospital, and two dogs died in the fire, according to WGN.

The GoFundMe has brought in more than $8,700 as of early Monday morning. The funds will be used to help pay for burial expenses and medical expenses.
