No Severe Weather Damage in McHenry County

Both the McHenry County Sheriff's Police and the Algonquin Police reported no significant damage Thursday night.

The risk of wind damage in McHenry County remained overnight Thursday into Friday, according to the National Weather Service. But, by just after 11 p.m. Thursday night, the local damage did not seem to be severe, a McHenry County Sheriff’s Police spokesperson said.

The National Weather service said winds could still pick up in the area through Friday with gusts as strong as 50 miles per hour.

A spokesman at the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said there were branches and the like down throughout town but no significant tree limbs or other wind damage had been reported.

A dispatcher for Algonquin Police confirmed that she had not had any reports of severe wind damage.

Around 7 p.m. Thursday, there were reports that the tornado that killed a woman in Fairdale was headed towards McHenry County. The storm that spawned that tornado moved across multiple counties, touching down and causing damage sporadically, the Weather Service said.

The storm did damage a house in Algonquin, though not wind damage. A lightning bolt struck a home and started a fire early Thursday morning.
