Runaway Pier Cruises Down Fox River With Boats in Tow
Marine crews secured a runaway pier over the weekend that detached from a Fox River shore.

ALGONQUIN, IL - Marine crews secured a runaway pier over the weekend that detached from a Fox River shore with as many as 12 boats in tow.
Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Chief Peter Van Dorpe told CBS News reporters that the pier broke free on Sunday near Algonquin Road and floated about 150 feet downstream before getting stuck.
“This is one big barge full of loosely tied together stuff — so that would have been one big, jumbled mess of debris is what it would have been,” he said, referencing a damn further down the Fox.
