RV Pulled Over in Crystal Lake; Man Faces Multiple Drug Charges

Mark T. Smith, 27, of Woodstock was pulled over on Route 14 while driving an RV.


A McHenry County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit was on routine patrol July 2, when the officer pulled over a white, full-sized RV for unsafe equipment on Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

During the course of the traffic stop, which occurred at about 6:15 p.m. near Route 31, the Sheriff's officer searched the 1990 Rally Jamboree RV and located numerous illegal narcotics, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office news release.

The driver of the RV, Mark T. Smith, 27, of the 100 block of Hutchins St., Woodstock, was charged with:

  • Unlawful possession of cannabis, a Class 4 felony
  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony
  • Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor

Officers seized 36.2 grams of cannabis, seven pharmaceutical pills, numerous items of drug paraphernalia, and $5,225 in U.S. currency, the news release stated.

Bond for Smith was set at $31,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court July 24.
