Things To Do: Mushing, Santa Arrives, Holiday Lights

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The weekend finally here.

And there will be plenty of fun things happening in and around McHenry County for those looking to get out.

We've got a rundown of events happening near and far that you may want to make it out to below:

Friday, November 10

Lightscape at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe opens for the holiday season on Nov. 10. The holiday light show will remain open through Jan. 7, 2024. More info.

The Winterfest Art Market will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Water Street Studios, 160 South Water Street in Batavia. More info.

Saturday, November 11

Huskies Race During Rig Rendezvous, Woodstock

Adopt a Husky Inc. will host its annual Bill Leonard Memorial Rig Rendezvous, with races starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The races welcomes dogs and mushers new to the sport — but registration has closed for the event — as well as spectators. Organizers are asking those stopping to leave pets that are not racing at home The race will be held at 3500 Illinois 47, Woodstock. More info.

Santa Arrives At Deer Park Town Center, Deer Park
Santa will arrive for the holiday season at Deer Park Town Center in Deer Park on Nov. 11. The festivities will get started at 6 p.m. Friday with a special performance by "Those Funny Little People." After the performance, Santa will arrive in a Lake Zurich Fire Department truck and will then flip the holiday lights on. A fireworks display will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a finale that will honor veterans. Santa will be available for visits and free photos until 8:30 p.m. More info.

Antique Flea Market At Lake County Fairgrounds, Grayslake

The flea market will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 1060 E. Peterson Road, Grayslake. There will be antiques, vintage, estate jewelry, vintage clothing, collectibles, comics, tv/movie memorabilia, mid century modern, furniture, vintage jewelry, vintage decor, vintage home, vintage experts, decorative arts, vintage lighting, decorating, design, country furniture, shabby chic, old toys, advertising, coins, and more. Admission is $8 and is good for both days. More info.

Holiday Craft Fair At Triphahn Community Center, Hoffman Estates

The holiday craft fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Triphahn Community Center and Ice Arena, 1685 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates. There will be holiday gifts including decor, treats, accessories, and so much more from local vendors and crafters. Admission is free. More info.

Norwegian Heritage Fest At All Saints Lutheran Church, Palatine

The Norwegian Heritage Fest will run. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 S. Quentin Road, Palatine. There will be demonstrations and displays, children's activities, music, Norwegian dancers, crafts for sale, a bake sale table and more. More info.

• Holiday Bazaar at Saint Bede School in Ingleside will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. More info is available on the event website.

Sunday, November 12

Family Photos With Santa At Phil's Beach, Wauconda
Santa will be posing with area families for photos at Phil's Beach, 328 N. Main St., in Wauconda from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 12. The cost is $10 per family for residents and $15 for non-residents and covers a professional photo with your family and Santa.
