Three Algonquin Businesses Busted for Reportedly Selling Booze to Underagers

A few local businesses are facing financial penalties after police say employees failed to do their due diligence when checking IDs.

A trio of local businesses were sanctioned by the village last week for allegedly selling booze to underage customers.

They included Citgo, 609 S. Main St.; Fuddruckers, 1608 S. Randall Road; and Texan BBQ, 101 N. Main St.

Citgo received the harshest punishment after reportedly selling a six-pack of Miller Lite to an underage buyer on May 12 — a second offense for the business, according to a Northwest Herald story. Its liquor license will be suspended from July 11 to July 26, and employees must complete a Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (BASSET) program.

"Algonquin Police Chief John Bucci said the compliance checks were conducted using legal under-21 Illinois licenses," the article said. "Representatives from all three restaurants said the sales were made because the people selling incorrectly did the math to figure out how old the license-holders were."
