The Village crews clear the main streets first to speed response time for emergency vehicles and then move to secondary and residential streets. If you have any questions about the snowplowing program, please call Public Works at 847-960-7500. If Village equipment has damaged the parkway area in front of your home, report it as soon as possible to Public Works at 847-960-7500. Repairs will be conducted in the spring.

Please remove snow and ice from the public sidewalk adjacent to your property within 24 hours after snowfall has ceased. The Village requires residents to remove snow from sidewalks to ensure that residents do not have to walk in the street. If the snow accumulation is frozen to the surface, the area must be sanded or salted until the temperature allows for removal.

Shoveling snow into the street is not permitted as excess snow can create hazardous conditions for plow trucks and other vehicles using the roadway. As a friendly reminder, failure to remove snow from sidewalks may result in a citation as it is a violation of Municipal Code 6.13.

When clearing the end of your driveway near the street, throw the snow to the right (as you face the road). Since the plows travel from left to right near the curb, the snow you remove will not end up back in your driveway.

Clear a few feet from the edge of the curb to the left side of your driveway as you face the road. This will greatly reduce the amount of snow that gets dumped back into your driveway. Take a look at the diagram to the right.

Thank you for helping us keep Lake in the Hills safe this winter!
