Wisconsin Man In 2017 McHenry Co. Drug Bust Sentenced To 8 Years

During an October 2017 traffic stop, police located 88 bags containing approximately 40 grams of heroin inside the man's vehicle.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announced Wednesday Christopher Cappello, 33, was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, by Judge Sharon Prather, after pleading guilty to a felony offense of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, according to a release.

According to the state's attorney's office, the charges stem from an Oct. 5, 2017 traffic stop performed by McHenry County Sheriff's Office deputies on a vehicle driven by Cappello, of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The traffic stop took place as he came from the area where suspected drug activity was originally reported – which was at an apartment in the 3900 block of Main Street in McHenry, police said.

The state's attorney's office said deputies located 88 bags containing approximately 40 grams of heroin inside the vehicle.

Police said eight clonazepam pills, as well as drug paraphernalia, were also hidden in the vehicle.

Patch reported in October 2017 a 31-year-old Crystal Lake woman and a 33-year-old man were arrested as a result of the same investigation involving Cappello that centered on drug activity reported the apartment, police said. Stephanie Phillippi, Cappello and Dioan MacMeekin were arrested following an investigation the McHenry County Sheriff's Police Narcotics Task Force, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities also pulled over MacMeekin in the area of the McHenry apartment. They allegedly found needles, heroin bags, cocaine bags and cash on him, according to the news release. Phillippi was a passenger in his vehicle. They found 111 tramadol hydrochloride pills and two clonazepam pills on her.

Authorities also searched the Main Street apartment in McHenry. There they recovered needles and empty residue baggies "that matched the types of bags recovered from all the traffic stops," police said.
