Wonder Lake Man Gets 86 Years For 2017 Murder, Home Invasion

Byron Howard was sentenced to 86 years in the IDOC two weeks after another man was sentenced in the case, according to authorities.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State's Attorney, announced Tuesday that 37-year-old Byron Howard, of Wonder Lake, was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Sharon Prather to 86 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) stemming from a May 2017 home invasion and murder of a McHenry man. According to a release from the state's attorney's office, Howard was found guilty last month of three counts of first degree murder, three counts of home invasion, armed robbery, burglary, armed habitual criminal and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

According to a release, Howard and another co-defendant, 46-year-old Adam Morris, of McCullom Lake, burglarized the McHenry home of Donald Jouravleff on May 27, 2017, while armed with firearms. During the unlawful entry, Jouravleff was shot and killed, and his wife was robbed at gunpoint, the state's attorney's office said.

Earlier this month, Kenneally announced that Morris was sentenced to 75 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) after a jury previously found him guilty of two counts of first degree murder, burglary, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, according to the state's attorney's office.
