1 Dead, 2 Injured In Oak Lane Mobile Home Park Fire
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene as Merrionette Park firefighters battle deadly blaze in the Oak Lane trailer park.
MERRIONETTE PARK, IL — One person was killed, and injured two others Sunday evening, in a mobile home fire in Merrionette Park, authorities said.
Just after 7 p.m., multiple fire departments responded to a mobile home fire with a possible explosion in the Oak Lane mobile home park at 11750 S. Homan Ave. in Merrionette Park. When fire crews arrived, they encountered a mobile home consumed by flames. Two adjacent mobile homes were also damaged, Merrionette Park Fire Chief Thomas Wendt said in a news release.
Videos posted on the Parking Pr*cks of Blue Island Facebook page showed a ball of flames and smoke billowing in the distance.

While battling the fast-moving blaze, firefighters discovered a deceased victim in the mobile home where the fire started. Two other people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but neither required transporting to a hospital, authorities said.
The name of the deceased victim has not been released.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by Merrionette Park Fire Department authorities and the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
Fire departments from Alsip, Blue Island, Calumet Park, Crestwood, Garden Homes, Midlothian and Robbins, as well as Orland Central Dispatch, assisted in fighting the fire.
