Alsip Man Charged In 2024 Fatal I-94 Expressway Shooting

Darius Norwood, 32, is charged with first-degree murder in the June 2024 shooting that claimed the life of a 26-year-old man.

CHICAGO – An Alsip man has been arrested for gunning down another driver last summer on the I-94 Expressway, Illinois State Police said. Darius Norwood, 32, has been charged with first degree murder.

During the evening of June 7, 2024, ISP officers responded to a crashed vehicle with a deceased gunshot victim in the northbound local lanes of I-94 near 37th Street in Chicago. The victim was identified as 26-year-old Tywaun Donald by the Cook County Medical Examiner.

According to a Chicago police report, Norwood was riding in a Jeep Grand Cherokee with two other people around 8:45 p.m. on June 7, 2024, when they began following Donald, who was driving a Jeep Compass along 54th Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Norwood was identified as a suspect after an “exhaustive investigation,” ISP said in a news release.

An Alsip police officer took Norwood into custody on Feb. 26 at the Gas-N-Wash at 127th Street and Kostner Avenue, Chief Jay Miller told Patch. He was later turned him over to Illinois State Police.

The Cook County State’s Attorney approved the felony murder charge. Norwood is being held pending his first court hearing.
