Cook County School District 130 Welcomes New Safety Director, Geoffery Farr

Former Blue Island Police Chief brings 27 years of experience to enhance safety protocols as new school year begins

As the 2025-2026 school year begins, Cook County School District 130 is reinforcing its commitment to safety by welcoming Geoffery Farr as the district’s new Director of Safety.

Farr brings more than 27 years of law enforcement experience to the role, having served the City of Blue Island as a police officer and most recently as Chief of Police. His deep familiarity with the community, coupled with his background in public safety management and criminal justice, positions him to lead District 130’s safety efforts with both expertise and care.

“My purpose for joining District 130 is clear: to provide our children with an optimal learning environment, free from worry about their safety,” Farr said. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility, and by working together, we can ensure our schools remain secure and supportive.”

Farr’s focus will include strengthening safety protocols, upgrading technology infrastructure, and ensuring that students and staff are prepared for emergencies through the “I Love U Guys” Standard Response Protocol. This protocol provides clear, consistent actions to follow in the event of an incident:

  • HOLD: Clear hallways; remain in the room until “All Clear.”
  • SECURE: Return inside the building.
  • LOCKDOWN: Move away from sight, stay silent, do not open doors.
  • EVACUATE: Leave belongings, bring phone if possible, follow instructions.
  • SHELTER: Use appropriate safety strategies for hazards like tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, or hazardous materials.

Families and community members are also encouraged to utilize Safe2Help Illinois, a 24/7 resource for confidentially reporting safety concerns. More information is available at https://www.district130.org/365819_2.
