Voters Say Yes To Abolishing Worth Township Road District
Voters say yes to a referendum to abolish the road district in Worth Township and bring it under the umbrella of township government.
ALSIP, IL — Voters said yes to a binding referendum to abolish the road district in Worth Township and bring it under the umbrella of township government.
“Shall the Road District of the Township of Worth be abolished with all the rights, powers, duties, assets, property, liabilities, obligations and responsibilities being assumed by the Township of Worth.”
The road district is a separate taxing body and is responsible for 14 miles of roadway in unincorporated areas of the township at an annual budget of $1,918,000, half of which went to the administrative costs of $909,000.
The township will create a highway department that would provide more services under centralized management. Other townships including Naperville, Bloomingdale and Hanover, have passed similar measures and incorporated the responsibility for the roads within their respective governments.
