Elaine McGovern died from "multiple traumatic injuries" from the accident last week, according to preliminary autopsy results.

LONG GROVE, IL — The identity of a 78-year-old Arlington Heights woman who was killed last week in a two-vehicle accident in Long Grove has been released following an autopsy. Preliminary autopsy results found Elaine McGovern died from "multiple traumatic injuries" after apparently losing control of her SUV and hitting another vehicle along Route 83, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office. McGovern was not wearing her seatbelt at the time, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said after the crash.

An autopsy for McGovern was performed Friday morning, Dr. Howard Cooper, the Lake County Coroner, said in a statement Monday.

"Toxicology results are pending and her family has been notified," he stated.

The crash happened the night of Thursday, Jan. 4, on Route 83, north of Route 22, the sheriff's office said last week. McGovern was traveling north on the road when she lost control of the 2015 Subaru Outback she was driving, and her SUV crossed the center median, according to the sheriff's office.

McGovern's SUV collided with a 2004 Jeep Liberty traveling south on the road, the sheriff's office said. McGovern was thrown from her vehicle in the crash. The Jeep's driver — a 62-year-old Vernon Township woman — was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, and her injuries were not life-threatening, authorities said.

The sheriff's office is still investigating the accident.
