Active Care Colorblast 5K a Huge - and Colorful - Success

The first-ever 5K run held before the Taste of Arlington Heights on Saturday, raised $35,000 for Clearbrook's Autism program.

What started out as a ‘colorful’ thought, blossomed into a local 5K run on Saturday held before the Taste of Arlington Heights, which raised $35,000 for Clearbrook’s Autism program.

The first ever Colorblast 5K was the creation of Dr. John Cress, co-owner of Active Care Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in Arlington Heights, along with his business partner, Dr. Amanda Karm.

“Volunteering and helping others was something that my parents taught me at a young age. Having a family member with an intellectual/developmental disability, I knew of no better place to help than Clearbrook,” Cress said.

He added that due to its success, he intends to continue to sponsor the 5K walk/run in years to come, while giving back to the community.

“The future of the race and Active Care Chiropractic & Rehabilitation will always be two fold; raise funds for local charities, and to showcase Arlington Heights and all of its amazing residents and businesses,” Cress said.

In all, 1,400 people participated in the event that began on Saturday, August 10 at 10 a.m. in downtown Arlington Heights.

As walkers, and runners, snaked through the downtown area, they were pelted by bystanders with colored corn starch which made the streets, and air, colorfully vibrant.

Mayor Tom Hayes, who was the grand marshal of the event, ran the 5K as well.

“It was an amazing event which raised a great amount of money for Clearbrook,” Hayes said.
