AH Historical Society Hosts Annual House Walk

From AH Historical Society: Celebrating its 60th anniversary year, The Arlington Heights Historical Society presents the 24th Annual House Walk on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 12-5 pm. Enjoy a spring afternoon visiting five architecturally significant homes in the Arlington Heights community.

Five customized and distinctive homes highlight the unique and varied architecture in a variety of neighborhoods in Arlington Heights. These charming homes reflect the homeowners' flair for functional design and feature details that reflect each family’s lifestyle. Come spend a lovely afternoon browsing through:

• A small home just south of downtown owned by a local designer who has a national reputation and 69,000 Instagram followers. This charming home shows that good design does not need much space to be effective.

• An early 1940’s home that has been renovated, but still maintains many of the features from the original owner, located on a magnificent landscaped lot in the Rec Park neighborhood.
• A 2005 home in Rec Park that shows how new construction has the ability to compliment and harmonizewith the character of an older, existing neighborhood.
• A very recognizable 1940’s stone home in Scarsdale that has undergone a major renovation with updatesthoughtfully planned for a cohesive design theme.
• A MUST see home originally owned by a prominent family of Arlington Heights. This home was recentlyrenovated, updated and expanded and sits on one of the largest lots in our village.

In addition to the House Walk this year, a lecture entitled, “Putting Foliage First” will be presented by BarbaraWierich, owner, designer and architect of Lake Cliff Gardens in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Barbara will explain how to design a garden based on leaf, color, texture and form.

Lake Cliff Gardens hosted the 2015 Regional Garden Writers Association meeting with many of the writers proclaiming it as one of the best private gardens in the country. Lake Cliff Gardens has also been featured in Fine Garden Magazine multiple times and Barbara Weirich has written many articles for those features.Registration is $25 for Historical Society members, $30 for non-members, and $35 at the door. “Putting FoliageFirst” lecture only is $10.
