AHeights Chainsaw Attacker Pleads Guilty, Sentenced To 21 Years

The 28-year-old Arlington Heights man apologized for the June 2017 attack that nearly severed the arm of his estranged wife's boyfriend.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — An Arlington Heights man who attacked his estranged wife's boyfriend with a chainsaw and almost sliced his arm off was sentenced to 21 years Tuesday after pleading guilty to attempted murder in the incident, according to the Arlington Heights Post. Jose Jaimes-Jimenez, 28, apologized at the hearing, and the victim — whose arm was cut through the bone with only skin and a tendon attaching it — said he forgave him for the June 2017 attack, the report added.

The incident happened June 19 outside an office complex in the 500 block of West Golf Road where Jaimes-Jimenez's wife and the victim worked together. According to prosecutors, Jaimes-Jimenez confronted the two with his chainsaw as they walked out to the parking lot and then rammed his car into the victim's vehicle. A foot chase between the victim and Jaimes-Jimenez ensued, but the victim stumbled as he fled.

That's when Jaimes-Jiminez cut the victim with the chainsaw, severely hurting his forearm, as well as his right elbow and stomach. The man eventually escaped when he kicked Jaimes-Jiminez in the groin and ran to a nearby office. After the victim fled, Jaimes-Jiminez undressed to his boxer shorts and stayed on the ground next to the chainsaw so police knew he was unarmed.
