A year ago, at this moment, John and I slept on our L-shaped family room couch.  Next to us, on a hospital bed, Shea lay dying. A nasal canula delivered oxygen into her airways. A g-tube provided nutrition, as she had lost her ability to swallow many months earlier. Down the hall, her new puppy slept, housed in a crate to facilitate housebreaking.
