Arlington Heights Bans Tobacco Sales To People Under 21
A new ban on tobacco sales to anyone under 21 goes into effect in Arlington Heights next week.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — If you're under 21 and in Arlington Heights, and want to smoke, vape or chew, you'll have to buy products somewhere else. Village officials voted this week to ban the sale of all tobacco products to anyone under 21.
The ban includes all tobacco products, alternative nicotine products and electronic smoking devices. Anyone under 18 won't be allowed to sell those products, either.
Tobacco retailers will be required to post warnings for all customers, the new ordinance said.

Village officials unanimously approved the move, and Mayor Tom Hayes called the measure "worthwhile and needed," The Daily Herald reported. He cited a new youth commissioner's report that vaping has become a problem at Prospect High School, the news organization said.
The ban takes effect next week, and village officials said they'll begin enforcing the rule after 30 days and after businesses are notified.
