Arlington Heights Bicyclist Dies After Running Into Open Car Door
The 63-year-old man had been taken to an area hospital in critical condition following Tuesday's accident, police said.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A 63-year-old Arlington Height bicyclist who was seriously hurt after running into a parked car's open door has died. Glenn Richmond was pronounced dead Wednesday night in the intensive care unit at Lutheran General Hospital, where he was taken in critical condition following the accident, according to Arlington Heights police.
An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner's office is scheduled for Thursday. Police are still investigating the incident.

The accident happened at around 11:54 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the 1400 block of North Dunton Avenue, police said. The owner of a 2015 Kia Optima had parked on the east side of the street, just south of Thomas Street, and had left the driver's side door open in order to grab things from inside the car.

The bicyclist hit the open door and the car's owner as he was traveling south on Dunton from Thomas, according to police. The collision sent the bicyclist, who wasn't wearing a helmet, to the ground, and he suffered serious head injuries.
