Arlington Heights Crews Work On Nearly 2-Dozen Water Main Breaks

The water main breaks took place after an initial break took place over the weekend near the water tower on S. Arlington Heights Road.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The Village of Arlington Heights said crews from the Department of Public Works have worked on 21 water main breaks, and are fixing a few more after an initial water main break took place over the weekend near the water tower on S. Arlington Heights Road. Aside from a few isolated problems there aren't any system-wide issues as of Monday afternoon, and the Village's water system is working properly, the Village reported in an update issued just before noon Monday.

Anyone with localized water issues, including a precautionary boil order, has been contacted by the DPW. Because of the number and duration of the water main breaks, and the attention needed to address them, the Village said they were unable to communicate (with residents) as they normally would. The Village said the normal course of action with a water main break includes DPW crews notifying those affected about a repair and any possible water shut-offs.

In a Facebook post Monday, the Village advised any residents with discolored water to run their water until it appears clear (15 minutes), as breaks can cause temporary discoloration of tap water. The Village added that unscrewing the faucet's aerator and cleaning it out might also help.
