Arlington Heights Resident Starts Buckingham Fountain For Summer

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — An Arlington Heights resident kicked off the unofficial start to summer over the weekend by flipping the switch on Buckingham Fountain, according to The Daily Herald. The news report said Megan Briggs won an online ComEd contest, bringing her to the stage downtown Sunday along with WGN-TV Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling for the 5th annual Switch on Summer event.
The event ran from noon to 3 p.m., and included live entertainment, family-friendly activities and giveaways, according to The Daily Herald. Briggs symbolized the unofficial start to summer at 2 p.m. when she turned on the fountain's switch.
