Bicyclist Who Hit Open Car Door Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries
The 63-year-old man wasn't wearing a helmet Tuesday when he landed on his head following a collision.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A 63-year-old bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday after he hit the open door of a parked car in Arlington Heights. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to Arlington Heights police.
The accident happened at around 11:54 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the 1400 block of North Dunton Avenue, police said. The owner of a 2015 Kia Optima had parked on the east side of the street, just south of Thomas Street, and had left the driver's side door open in order to grab things from inside the car.
The bicyclist hit the open door and the car's owner as he was traveling south on Dunton from Thomas, according to police. The collision sent the bicyclist, who wasn't wearing a helmet, to the ground, and he suffered serious head injuries. According to authorities, the bicyclist is still in critical condition from the accident. The Kia owner was hit in the back but wasn't hurt from the collision.
The crash is still being investigated by Arlington Heights police.
