Car Hits Girl, 9, As She Crosses Street: Cops
The accident happened Wednesday, and the driver was cited for failing to yield for a pedestrian.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A 9-year-old girl was taken to the hospital Wednesday after a car hit her while crossing the street, lifting her off the pavement and onto the vehicle's hood, according to the Daily Herald. Arlington Heights police cited the unidentified driver with failure to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk, the report added.
The accident happened at around 7:30 p.m. at Arlington Heights Road and St. James Street, the report stated. According to police, the girl was with a group of children and adults at North School Park when she crossed Arlington Heights Road while the car was traveling south, the report added.
Police Sgt. Thomas Henderson told the Herald that physics "worked in the girl's favor" by throwing her on the car's hood instead of having her body absorb the impact. The girl was responsive and breathing, and Arlington Heihts firefighters took her to the hospital, the report added.
