Carson's In Mount Prospect Will Be Closing Soon

UPDATED: Liquidation sales will begin Friday, but no specific date has been set for when the store will close.

The days appear to be numbered for a longtime bricks-and-mortar retailer in the north suburbs after a liquidation company won the assets of the bankrupt Bon-Ton Stores Inc. at auction. Bon-Ton is the parent company for Carson's, which has a department store in Mount Prospect and a furniture outlet in Schaumburg.

Liquidation sales will begin Friday, April 20, but no specific date has been given for when stores ultimately will be shuttered. Closings, however, are expected within the next 10 to 12 weeks. In January, the Carson's store at the Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg was one of seven Illinois locations the retailer closed.

Bon-Ton has 260 stores in 24 states, and that includes outlets such as Carson's, Bon-Ton, Boston Store and others. The Mount Prospect location at 1025 Center Drive is one of the anchor stores for the shopping center along Euclid Avenue, and the Schaumburg Carson's Furniture Gallery at 830 E. Golf Road occupies a major space in a three-store strip mall.

On April 18, 2018, Bon-Ton officially announced Bankruptcy Court approval of the sale of the inventory and substantially all of the Company's assets. As such, Bon-Ton will conduct an orderly wind-down of its operations and is committed to minimizing the impact of this development on our associates, customers, vendors and the communities we serve.
We expect the liquidation process in all Bon-Ton stores to begin shortly. Throughout the store closing sales, our stores, e-commerce and mobile platforms under the Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson's, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers nameplates will remain open and serving customers. We will continue to provide more details on our going out of business sales in the near term. On behalf of all of us, thank you for your support and business.

These closings come on the heels of Toys R Us announcing it was shuttering its remaining stores across the country. That includes a storefront in Schaumburg located down Golf Road near the now-closing Carson's Furniture Gallery.

It also happens in the shadow of the struggles of Hoffman Estates-based retailer Sears, which has been closing stores and restructuring its workforce for the past couple years.
