District 214 Offers Support After Teen's Coronavirus Death

Support services are available for High School District 214 students following the death of a student likely due to the coronavirus.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Following the announcement of a High School District 214 student's passing likely due to complications from the coronavirus, district officials are reminding students and staff that support services are available. D-214 spokesman Dave Beery said information on support services have been widely disseminated to students throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

D-214 Superintendent David Schuler announced the student's passing, as well as another student who is in the intensive care unit due to the coronavirus, in a letter to district parents. Beery said he knows of no other confirmed coronavirus cases in the district apart from the two referenced in Schuler's letter.

"While we may be seeing a plateau in confirmed cases and deaths related to COVID-19 in Illinois, this is a dark week in District 214 that leaves me with an incredibly heavy heart," Schuler said in the letter. "We will continue to move forward to see the sunrise again one day; however, this week in our District is marked by pain and sadness. My family’s thoughts and prayers are with these families and all members of our District’s school community during this global pandemic."
