COVID-19 Cases Up 221 Percent Last 2 Weeks In Arlington Heights

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL —After nearly four months of declining numbers, Arlington Heights is continuing to trend in the wrong direction, with coronavirus cases on the rise for the sixth straight week (three-week moving average). The number of new cases in Arlington Heights increased by 221 percent over the last two weeks, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health, up from the prior 14 days (148 percent increase from Aug. 2-9).

In all, Arlington Heights has seen 6,974 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 80 new cases reported in the last week, compared to 106 new cases for the week of Aug. 2-9.

Since the first death was recorded on April 8, 2020, 133 Arlington Heights residents have died from the coronavirus. The latest death came on Aug. 11.

In Arlington Heights, 49,254 people have completed their vaccine series, which is 65.6 percent of the population. It marks an increase of 215 fully vaccinated people since Aug. 9, according to the CCDPH.

There have been 258,703 coronavirus cases in Cook County (excluding Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, Skokie, and Stickney Township) since the start of the pandemic, as of Monday. There have been 4,512 deaths. The community transmission level is currently substantial, according to the Cook County health officials.

The IDPH reported Friday 21,334 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease in Illinois, including 92 additional deaths since reporting Aug. 6. Currently, 76 percent of Illinois adults have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and more than 59 percent of Illinois adults are fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

IDPH is also reporting a total of 1,457,687 cases, including 23,594 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Since reporting on Aug. 6, laboratories have reported 421,009 specimens for a total of 27,609,781. As of Aug. 12, 1,652 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 345 patients were in the ICU and 162 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from August 6-12, is 5.1 percent. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity, from August 6-12, is 5.9 percent.

A total of 13,510,873 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of Aug. 12. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 30,737 doses. Since reporting on Aug. 6, 215,157 doses were reported administered in Illinois.
