Des Plaines Bicylist Dies After Collision With Bus: Medical Examiner

Edgar Soriano Aguilar, 50, died two days after he collided with a Pace bus after police said he swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle.

DES PLAINES, IL — A 50-year-old Des Plaines man who was struck by a Pace bus while riding his bicycle over the weekend has died from injuries sustained in the crash, Cook County officials announced on Tuesday.

Edgar R. Soriano Aguilar died from brain injuries he suffered in the collision, which took place at 5:40 p.m. on Saturday when police said he swerved to avoid another vehicle. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office released his identity along with his cause of death on Tuesday.

The collision took place when police said Aguilar was riding west on Touhy Avenue near Lee Street when he needed to swerve to avoid another vehicle. Police said that after swerving, Aguilar collided with a bus that was traveling in the same direction.

Aguilar was taken to a local hospital and died on Monday, police said. No citations were issued in the crash, police said.
