Elk Grove Village Man Wielding Knife Shot, Killed By Police: PD
Jack Murray, 24, was shot and killed after police said that he came out of a Fern Drive residence and confronted officers with a knife.
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL — A 24-year-old Elk Grove Village man was shot and killed by police officers on Friday afternoon after officials said that he came out of a local residence with a knife and confronted officers.
The man was identified by Jack Murray, who was shot by Elk Grove Village Police shortly before 4:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Fern Drive. Police said that Murray came out of the house wielding the knife before he made his way toward officers.
A police spokesman said that Murray kept the knife in his possession while confronting police, who then shot him. Murray was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police were called to the home, where they said officers had responded previously. A police spokesman declined to specify if Murray lived at the home and only said he was an Elk Grove Village resident. Police also would not say if Murray had a relationship with the person who called the police from the home. Police also did not say the nature of the previous calls to the home.
Three police officers were also taken to a local hospital after the incident, but police did not provide further information.

“We hope to cooperate with the Elk Grove Village police to determine exactly what happened during this tragic incident,” attorney Antonio Romanucci said in a statement offered on behalf of Murray’s family.
Romanucci said at a news conference on Monday that the family was told that Murray was "a crime scene", which kept police from allowing relatives to see Murray.
The incident remains under investigation by Elk Grove Village Police and the Regional Major Case Assistance Team is investigating the use of force, police said.
In a statement issued by police on Monday, officials said that they are working with the Major Case Assistance Team to determine what exactly. happened. The department said that the five officers who responded to the residence have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
"The Elk Grove Village Police Department has already provided MCAT investigators footage of the body-worn cameras, and vehicle camera footage is available for their review," the department's statement said. "Additionally, the Elk Grove Village Police Department has been conducting a parallel criminal investigation in order gain a complete understanding of the events that led to the incident."
