Hundreds Of Bags Of Heroin Discovered During Traffic Stop: Cops

A Bellwood man faces drug charges after trying to flee Arlington Heights police Tuesday morning.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A Bellwood man faces drug charges after he fled from Arlington Heights police on foot following a traffic stop Tuesday morning that uncovered hunderds of bags of heroin. Keith Manning, 26, was charged with unlawful possession of heroin, unlawful possession of heroin with intent to deliver and resisting a peace officer stemming from the incident, the Daily Herald reports. His bond hearing is set for Wednesday.

Police pulled over the four-door sedan Manning was riding in for a vehicle code infraction at around 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, near Algonquin and Golf roads, according to the Herald. The officer asked Manning and the driver to exit the car after reportedly smelling marijuana, the report added.

When the driver complied with the officer's request, Manning got behind the wheel and tried to drive off, the report stated. The officer, however, was able to stop the escape attempt, and the two began to tussle, the report added.

Eventually, Manning was able to break away and run from the officer, the report stated. Nearly a half hour later, police received a 911 call from a woman reporting a suspicious individual in her backyard, which was near the original traffic stop, the report added.

Manning was found in the woman's backyard after officers responded to the call, and he was taken into custody, the report stated. Police later searched the car Manning had been in and discovered several hundreds of small plastic bags filled with heroin, the report added.

The car's driver was not charged in the incident, according to the Herald.
