ILLINOIS — On Tuesday, Raja Krishnamoorthi is hoping to remain in Washington, D.C., as he seeks a fourth term representing Illinois' 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. The Schaumburg Democrat is facing off with Republican candidate Chris Dargis, of Palatine.

Krishnamoorthi has held the two-year seat since 2017, winning elections in 2016, 2018 and 2020. In June, Krishnamoorthi won the Democratic Party's nomination after capturing 71 percent of the vote over challenger Junaid Ahmed.

Dargis, a businessman and retired Naval officer and nuclear engineer, received the Republican nod in June by defeating a field that included four other candidates. He received 32 percent of the vote.

Dargis said in his Patch questionnaire, "Unlike the current incumbent, I will work to solve the problems facing our community. I will support an all-of-the-above energy policy, including drilling for oil and gas, to lower fuel and energy costs burdening Illinois families. I will work to lower inflation by halting reckless spending and special interest giveaways. I will support our law enforcement professionals to ensure we once again have safe communities. And I will continue the ethos of service I embraced as a Naval Officer, putting my country and the men, women, and families of Illinois first."

Mohammed Faheem was originally slated to run as an independent for the seat, but dropped out of the race in August.
