ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Endeavor Health will eliminate inpatient psychiatric services at Northwest Community Hospital in April, resulting in the loss of 100 jobs, according to a spokesperson.

"Like many in the health care industry, we are entering 2025 facing significant cost pressures and headwinds that require our organization to adapt and think differently about how we maximize our talent and resources to operate effectively and continue to deliver high-quality, expert care to our communities," Endeavor Health, based in Evanston, said in a statement shared with Patch.

Crain's Chicago Business first reported the layoffs Wednesday, saying affected employees were notified Wednesday, with the services ending on April 11. Endeavor said it is hoping that many of those affected will join the company in other positions across its system.

"This change is driven a sustained decrease in demand for inpatient behavioral health services as we have seen an increased emphasis on outpatient and community-based care and telehealth services, and the opportunity and need to align our expertise and resources to provide safe, high-quality patient care," Endeavor Health said in the statement.

According to NCH, which opened its doors in Arlington Heights in 1959, the hospital serves 200,000 outpatients and 20,000 inpatients annually.

Endeavor Health said there will be no changes to outpatient care at NCH, which will continue to offer outpatient services, including screenings, specialized programming, counseling, support groups and provider clinics.

Last week, Patch reported Endeavor Health was considering up to 100 layoffs after posting a loss of more than $120 million in the first three quarters of last year. The hospital group was formed by the 2022 merger of Northshore University HealthSystem and Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare.
