Lithium Battery Disposal, E-Waste Pick-Up Program Underway In Arlington Heights

Residents have the opportunity to have up to two electronic items picked up from the curb, each week, for no additional fee.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Stressing the importance of disposing of items like a lithium-ion battery safely, Village officials are looking to help residents. For example, these batteries cannot be disposed of in the garbage or recycle bins because they are likely to cause fires that start quick, burn hot, and are difficult to extinguish.

According to the Village, lithium-ion batteries are commonly found in items that can be recharged. Items that commonly contain Lithium-ion Batteries include (but are not limited to):

  • Vapes & e-cigarettes
  • Cell phones and smart phones
  • Laptops and tablets
  • Portable chargers
  • Rechargeable (cordless) tools and equipment
  • Wireless earbuds and headphones
  • Bluetooth speakers & smart devices
  • Electronic toys
  • Cameras
