Man Shot In Head Outside Elk Grove Home: Police

He was taken to Lutheran General Hospital for treatment, police say.

ELK GROVE, IL — A man was shot in the head, and a car belonging to his acquaintance was struck with bullets, outside of an Elk Grove home early Sunday morning, police said.

At around 4:15 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched for a call about a person shot outside a Dogwood Trail home in the driveway, and a man was found near Aspen Lane with a bullet wound to his head, according to a post on the department's Facebook page.

First aid was rendered until the fire department arrived, and took him to Lutheran General Hospital, police said, adding that an unoccupied Grey Toyota Camry belonging to an acquaintance of his was also struck with bullets in the driveway, as well as a single-family home across the street from the home.

There are no other reported injuries, police said.

Investigators are on the scene actively gathering information and talking to neighbors to learn more about why this occurred and who may be involved, and so far, one witness has reported a dark-colored sedan may have been involved, according to police.

Dogwood Trail is closed between Aspen Lane and Magnolia Lane and Aspen Lane is closed between Pinewood Drive and Magnolia Lane, as evidence technicians and investigators work to gather information, police said.

Residents may see a law enforcement drone in the air for a short time near the scene to be used for photography of the scene and mapping, according to police.

This investigation is active and ongoing.

"We believe this is an isolated incident but need to develop and gather more information," the post continued. "When more information becomes available, we will provide an update to the community."

"There is no threat to the community, and we appreciate the strong community support as we work through this unfortunate incident," the post concluded.
