Missing Man With Dementia Found In Cook County Forest Preserve

The 63-year-old, who had diabetes and early onset dementia, was reported missing Monday afternoon and found about a day later, police said.

PALATINE, IL — A man who was missing overnight in the Deer Grove West Forest Preserve was found Tuesday using an aerial drone, according to police.

The 63-year-old, who had diabetes and early onset dementia, was reported missing Monday afternoon from the preserve in Palatine, police said.

Cook County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units and aerial support officers searched from about 10 p.m. Monday to 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, and the aerial support officers resumed around 8 a.m., according to police, who said in a news release that the man was found just before 1 p.m. Tuesday laying off a path and hidden by tall grass.

The man was conscious and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
