More Lemonade Stands To Aid Family Of Hersey Girl Killed In Crash

The 'Lemonade for Lendinos' fundraisers continue this weekend in Mount Prospect and Wheeling.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Two more pop-up lemonade stands to help the family of a 16-year-old John Hersey High School student killed in a Wheeling car crash last month are set for this weekend. Alyssa Lendino, of Mount Prospect, died July 21 after a speeding car hit her family's stopped SUV, sending it into the intersection, where it was struck by another car.

Alyssa's dad and her 12-year-old sister, Amanda, were seriously injured in the accident at Milwaukee Avenue and Hintz Road. Adam Grunin, 30, of the 500 block of Manda Lane, Wheeling, was charged with reckless homicide in the crash. He was allegedly going 107 mph when his 2014 Hyundai Sonata hit the Lendinos' vehicle, according to Wheeling police.

This weekend's lemonade fundraisers will be at two area events. One stand will run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Mount Prospect Family Bike Ride at Melas Park, 1500 W. Central Road. Another stand will frun from noon to 6 p.m. at the Windy City Dub Fest car show at Chicago Executive Airport, 1060 S. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling.

Proceeds for the "Lemonade for Lendinos" stands will go to helping the famiy recover from the accident. Fundraising stands originally were held Aug. 4-5 around the area.

Other ways to donate to the Lendinos family include:

  • A GoFundMe page with a goal of $5,000 was created soon after the accident. The campaign started with a goal of $5,000, but it has raised more than $67,000 in 25 days.
