Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile In Arlington Heights: Village

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Mosquitoes in and around Arlington Heights have tested positive for the West Nile virus, according to the Village. The Northwest Mosquito Abatement District is conducting a night spray this week in areas northeast of the Northwest Highway and the Wilke Road intersection to help control the adult mosquito population.

Residents are asked to take steps to protect themselves from being bitten by wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors at night and using mosquito/bug spray.

Dumping any sitting water on your property is also a preventive measure, as mosquitoes can lay 100 eggs, surviving without water for up to 8 months. According to officials, once those eggs come in contact with water, eggs can hatch in 48 hours. Minimal water can also serve as an "excellent" nursery for mosquito larvae.
