Neighbor Recounts Attempting to Rescue Arlington Heights Drowning Victim

A neighbor of Henry E. Laseke, the man who drowned in a retention pond while submerged in his vehicle, attempted to rescue him on July 25, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Arlington Heights resident Rick Geiger attempted to rescue Henry E. Laseke, the man who drowned in a retention pond on July 25 in the Arlington on the Pond subdivision, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

The paper reported that Geiger jumped in the water and called to Laseke to open the doors, in addition to trying to open the doors and break the window with his elbow - to no avail. 

Emergency personnel were able to pull the car out of the water and get Laseke out, but were unable to revive him. His cause of death was ruled as accidental drowning. 

The investigation continues into how the 911 operator from Northwest Central Dispatch handled the call.
