Open Houses Give Sneak Peek At $16M Plan To Remodel Swim Center
The renovation to the Olympic Indoor Swim Center would include adding a gym, warm water pool and indoor walking track.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The Arlington Heights Park District has scheduled a series of open houses to gather input from the public concerning a $16 million renovation of its Olympic Indoor Swim Center, according to the Arlington Heights Post. These events will allow residents to get a look at potential ideas to remodel the facility.
The 90-minute open houses are scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, and 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the swim center, 660 N. Ridge Ave., which opened in 1970. The park district already held an open house Sunday.
The renovation proposal on the table would increase the size of the center by around 32,000 square feet, according to the park district. The project also would add a gym, warm water pool, indoor walking track and other upgrades, the district said.

The swim center received a $5 million expansion in 2004, which included adding an activity pool, family changing rooms and other improvements. To pay for the current renovation proposal, the district is considering using a maximum of $4 million from its reserves and generate the remaining $12 million by issuing bonds, the district said.
Financing plans will be addressed by the board early next year, and renovation ideas are expected to be discussed at the board's Dec. 12 meeting, according to the Post.
