Saint Viator Hires Former Bears Kicker Gould To Be Next Football Coach

Robbie Gould, who played for the Chicago Bears from 2005 to 2015, resigned from the same position at Rolling Meadows last week.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Saint Viator has a new varsity football coach, one Chicago Bears fans are very familiar with. Robbie Gould, 41, the franchise's all-time leading scorer, has been hired to lead the Lions on the gridiron.

Gould recently served as the head coach at Rolling Meadows, where the Mustangs posted a 5-5 record in his one season at the helm.

Saint Viator said in a Tuesday announcement, Gould will begin in his new role immediately and that he has already met with members of the team.

"I am both honored and excited to be joining Saint Viator High School, an institution with a storied tradition of excellence both on and off the field," Gould said in a statement released by the private Catholic school on its website. "Creating a family atmosphere within our football program is of utmost importance to me. I believe in players supporting one another and striving for collective success. Our journey to greatness will begin together."

Gould, who played 18 seasons in the NFL, was a member of the Chicago Bears from 2005 to 2015. He is the franchise's all-time leading scorer, an accomplishment he made during the 2015 season. Gould is also No. 10 in NFL history for scoring. He was an All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection in 2006. In addition to the Bears, Gould had stints with the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers.

"I am excited to welcome Coach Gould and his family to Saint Viator," Saint Viator President Ryan Aiello said. "When we began our search, we were looking for a coach who understands our Viatorian mission, who is able to navigate the landscape of high school football, and who possesses the necessary skills to successfully develop our players athletically, academically, and emotionally well into the future."
