Son Accused Of Fatally Shooting Dad In Hoffman Estates Home: Cops
Neighbors say they were shocked by Wednesday's incident, and police have the son in custody.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — A son is accused of shooting and killing his father Wednesday morning in the Hoffman Estates home of the victim, who had lived there for about two decades, according to WGN News. Hoffman Estates police have taken the son in to custody, and neither he nor the victim have been identified, the report added.
According to police, officers responded to a report of a shooting just before 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at a home in the 900 block of Ash Road, near Higgins and Golf roads, the Daily Herald reports. Further details about the shooting, including what provoked the incident, have not been released by police, the report added.
The victim was shot in the head, and police told WGN that investigators are trying to determine if the shooting was self-defense or a homicide. Discussion over the police department's dispatch channel said the son opened fire because he believed his dad intended to shoot him first, the report added.

Neighbors told WGN that the victim was a divorced carpenter in his 50s who had lived in the home for around 20 years. The son, who is in his 20s, might have lived with his high school-age daughter at the father's Hoffman Estate residence, the TV report added.
The relationship between the son and father was described by neighbors as being close, and the shooting came as a shock to those living nearby, the report stated.
